I have a 2006 Crown Vic Police car with a bad transmission. It is my understanding that I can only replace it with another one out of 2006 car. Is that true?

You can pull one from a 2006 Grand Marquis also. I was unable to find a list of compatible years. I would call the local salvage yard in your area. They should be able to look up that info on their web site.

2005, 2006, 2007 all have different part numbers for a re- manufactured unit from Ford. They are not the same, but I do not know what the differences are. Per www.tascaparts.com
