Battery does not charge

Battery light came on battery kept going
dead so i bought new battery an the battery
light is on an battery wont charge

If you can get van started, put a voltmeter on battery terminals and see if you are getting 13.5-14.8 volts. If not you have a bad alternator. In the interim, put the new battery on a trickle charge. I also got a separate notion from your description that you might have a parasitic drain? Check alternator first and then if that is good, investigate the parasitic drain.
