2003 Windstar> The check engine light went on, I replaced the two O2 senors, codes came back

Asked by dukebella Nov 15, 2014 at 08:37 AM about the 2003 Ford Windstar SEL

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I replaced the two O2 senors, codes 171 and 174 and the EGR valve.. I drove it 85 miles
and it still read not ready for inspection. I drove it another 25 miles as per the mechanic
and the light came back on with the same codes. What does this mean?

check air intake system/air cleaner etc for clean passage, check pcv valve, check for vacuum leaks.

If you clean the mass air flow sensor, be sure to use only mass air flow cleaner. other cleaners can cause problems. if you don't find anything with these suggestions it could be a fuel trim problem. you may have to get someone to hook it up to a monitor and check fuel trim. it can be something as simple as a fuel filter, or a problem with the fuel (low pressure) return line.
