Trunk Stuck Shut
Asked by Elizabeth Aug 03, 2018 at 01:27 PM about the 2014 FIAT 500L Lounge
Question type: Maintenance & Repair
My 2014 Fiat 500L Trunk is stuck shut and won't open. I've tried unlocking it
multiple times and even when I can get in the other doors the hatch will not
budge. Is there a way to manually open this? What could this be caused by? I
took it to National Tire and Battery and they couldn't figure it out, mentioning to
take it to the dealership.

I have the same car with the same problem. Did you find a solution?
Ya know what actually yes! My dad took off the back door panel and found a release switch which opened the trunk. After doing this it’s been back to normal working great. Maybe try and find that manual release and that might do the trick.
Which panel did your dad take off?
GuruVH6RX didn't need to take the panel off. I found the yellow snap at the latch popped the hatch with small Allen wrench. But when you shut the hatch it still won't open unless you climb in the back and repeat!
You pry the yellow “snap” off with a small knife blade. Once off there is a square shaped metal bit inside. There is room to place a flat head screwdriver blade next to the right side of the metal bit. Push to the left and this releases the latch. After the lift gate is open oil the latch lightly and this will get it working again from the outside latch.
Found far left wire on the connector for then tail gate system was. Literally corroded off. That was a fun repair.
I love my fiat 500l but I am starting to think it's a lemon. Sometimes all my dash lights come on so I gotta turn car off and restart and usually they stay off then... my throttle light comes on daily and now my boot won't open. My first new car and I def regret buying a foreign car... my car is cute and has good speakers... panoramic roof... but everything else is less desirable
I just sprayed a liberal amount of WD40 onto the mechanism from inside the trunk and it opened first try.

I had the same problem. I took off the back inside plastic panel . Remove the screw under the trunk handle on the inside and pull on the plastic .It is all on push in clips, I broke one removing the panel, Looked at the electrical connections on the locking mechanism and the the outside release handle. They were corroded. Sprayed rust check to the whole area. While there I also sprayed the whole inside of the area with the rust check to keep from rusting.. After waiting 5 mins put the electrical back together and all is working at this time

There was in post on here recently that I followed and it works a treat. My boot wouldn’t open, the roof made funny noises and didn’t open and close properly and the rear heater stopped working but the simple trick sorted everything ! See photo

Thank you, Speyerdom! I found the little yellow 'snap' and used an old kitchen knife to pop it off (it then vanished into the unknown, but guessing that doesn't much matter). First screwdriver I tried didn't work but then I got a skinnier one, and viola! My latch seems to be working just fine now, but I did dowse it with WD40 - just in case! Saved me time and a costly repair bill! And FYI - I have a 2014 Fiat 500L (Bright yellow) which I LOVE!
