For one, don't take your car to Firestone. Find a local shop that specialized in BMWs. Take the car to Autozone and ask them to test your alternator and battery. They should be able to give you a detailed report. While the car is running, the voltage should be around13.6 volts, if not more. I'm betting the alternator is probably shot, but get it checked out first by somebody who knows what they're doing.

I saw this too late , they said it was the alternator so they change it ($700) now the red battery symbol is gone , but the car is shaking a lot and acelerating when parked and while driving any idea what could it be causing it ? Im so mad and deseperate for help! Thank you.

Like I said before, forget about Firestone, especially after this. For now, you need to go back there and demand they fix this shaking issue if it wasn't present prior to them replacing the alternator. Whatever it is, it's likely their fault.
