Thank you F_O_R. We are looking at buying an excursion with a V10 but I don't hear much about them. They're a lot cheaper than the diesel and we wont be using it every day.
The V10 is a good engine, but they use lots of gasoline.
If you buy a diesel you will get more mileage and miles to the gallon. My first one I got 550,000 and mine now has 375,000 on it and she's going strong. I get 17.4 mpg.
The cost of maintaining and running a diesel is quite high. The 7.3 in the early Fords is pretty much bullet proof. The 6.0 was a disaster and the 6.4 was not a lot better. The 6.7 is pretty good.

I've gotten 400,000 on my last v10. I have both V10 and a diesel Excursion both have their ups and downs.
