VW Touareg TDI Performance

Asked by Deepauthor Aug 05, 2018 at 01:34 AM about the 2014 Volkswagen Touareg TDI Executive

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Have a 2014 Touareg TDI that wa a great car.  VW
did the recall to settle the fraud case on the  Diesel
engine.  After the “fix” the car has a lag in
acceleration that is so bad it is actually dangerous.
Entering or crossing traffics is quite treacherous
when the delay occurs and we never know when it
will occur.  VW service tells us that this “new
feature” is now engineered into the car and nothing
can be done to return the car to safe consistent
performance.  Has anyone else experienced this
issue?  Any ideas how to get around VW to get it
fixed. VW is certainly treating its customers well on
this one.

Take a look at this facebook site. Canadian VWAG 3L TDI & Bosch Settlement Forum and you will see many many many complaints regarding this bastardization of a $60K dollar car. What VW passed off as a fix is criminal.

Yes, our 2013 Toureg diesel does the same! I drive on and off hwy ramps a lot. During the exit slow down then pick up speed at light etc. the suv seems to power down so far it seems like engine is going to die. I cannot get power without a noticible kick in the engine. VW says all electronics show no problem. I loved my powerful diesel before fix and now it has been stripped of that smooth performance. What a waste of money and damnation of Diesel engines!! VW is not ever a option again for me. of its once

I have a 2013 TDI . My car was doing the same with the Factory air filter ! Once I put the K&N Air filter back on the car got much better. As part of recall they had forced me to put the paper filter on. That was at 52k miles. I have 76k my EGR system went out once the dealer replaced it I started to have Ash coming out of my tail pipe! The car runs fine and if you want more reponse put your car in Sport mode by pulling the shifter back once beyond Drive and let go of the shifter. I am in Southern California if you were wondering.

Same here. We just picked up our 2014 Touareg TDI after the second time in the shop for the diesel fix and the second recall has been applied. It is HORRIBLE !!!!!!!!!!! the lag is even worse now, the fuel economy is down 3-4 mpg. The lag is bad, roughly a second, sometime a little more. Before we had an abundance of power starting at 1500 rpm. now we are lucky if it shows up at 2500. it is like the old turbo cars from the late 80s. Nothing...Nothing...Nothing...EVERYTHING. We prefer to drive our Kia Sedona, it feels like it has more power and better response..

I purchased a 2012 TDI with 53K miles last fall and have been fighting ever since with the dealer and VW in Auburn Hills less than 3 miles away. lag is unpredictable and unsafe. I have already been rear ended attempting to pull onto a busy road. Idle at times drops below 400. Today it just stalled when put into reverse to pull out of a parking space. I call the dealer and they suggested I ask VW to buy it back. Anyone else gone down this road?

What color is your tail pipe? Do you drive short distances? Or stuck in stop and go traffic ? Or idle for long time? ......my exhaust tips are white due to Ash. Once the system does a ReGen a big puff of white ash comes out of my tail pipe if I rev my engine up to 3,400 RPM. You may have an issue with the particulate filter which may be full! Try driving your car for 20min above 2000 RPM.

I've got a 2012 TDI Executive purchased with 76K, currently sitting at 81K. Absolutely no issues. Throttle response is excellent, no issues with passing power or getting up to speed. Pulls extremely strong. Only gripe about the updated transmission logic is it holds gears while the engine is warming up.

I had the same problem with lack of power and sluggish response after the VW fix. I was ready to sell the car because it was so slow and boring to drive. I decided to purchase a tuner from Karma and give it one last chance. That tune turned the car around to even better than before and now is a joy to drive. Best money I ever spent. The car also passes emissions with no problem. The car has tons of power and better fuel mileage. There's no way I would have kept my 2015 TDI Touareg without this tune. Just my true experience. Its now February 24th, 2023. Zero problems with my tune since new and still loving it.
