I found water leaked inside of my 2014 Mercedes GL , most of the water was in the trunk and the second row
Does any one have any idea where could have the water leaked from ?
it was raining hard and I found the water was also dripping down from the car on the floor

Inspect the weather stripping and the trunk gutter drain.

Did you ever get this resolved. Same problem here and they said it’s cobered under warranty - new wiring harness but after 5 weeks they said it’s not. They told me lots of people had this complain so now they cover it. But then after 5 weeks they told me no it’s something external that got in without me noticing and damaged the entire wiring harness. I’d love to hear more stories or find an attorney to investigate. sbmcinerney@yahoo.com
I've got water everywhere ...from the back wells above the wheels, under all the floor mats and into the wells where the electrical components and battery are. It's ruined the electrical system. We have no idea how it got in...but there is a LOT of water. Have you learned anything else?

got same issue on 2014 gl350. did anybody resolved this ?
Nothing yet but the problem keeps getting bigger. Now mold.
My car had so much damage my insurance company considered it totaled. (Apparently they always cover water damage). And they didn't want to take the chance on a repair and the potential for mold. And the dealer couldn't actually find out where the water was coming from. If there are actually others who have the same problem we should consider some formal complaints.
I just experienced the same thing I have a gl450 and water was leaking through my trunk and another part of the vehicle the entire car is ruined and is going to cost 22,000 to fix
I have a 2015 GL350. Broke down, water ingress and they wanted to charge me £17,700 for water ingress. Wouldn't cover under approved used warranty. Dealer in Wales said Rodents or birds destroyed the sunroof seal. Dealer in Reading won't fix the seal as he says he is not confident that this will resolve the water ingress. Head Office are a joke as I have now been told to collect my vehicle after they have had it for 4 days short of 6 months. Said new wiring harness required. After finally sucking out the water, there is one fault, adblue sensor with engine management light (apparently they are linked) - recall for adblue and they won't do the recall works. A joke. This is for a Premium brand product. Oh and as it is a USA manufactured model apparently made for the UK market, I don't have the debonding issues on recall in USA. Was told by Reading dealer that it is a bonding issue, miraculously it is now not a bonding issue.
This same thing is happening right now on my 2015 GL450. The mechanic just called and said that the battery compartment is filled with muddy water??? I have no idea how as I haven’t left my house in 10 weeks. My husband has driven it to the store and back, alternating between driving his car and mine so that it doesn’t have issues because it was sitting and not being started. Were does the flooding come from???? Open windows?? Weather stripping issues?? I am trying to even wrap my head around it. Like one of the comments above, they might total it and it would be worth about $10,000 and I owe almost $22,000. Any help with this is appreciated!!
i have a 2008 gl450 leaking water. Removed headliner to find water is leaking in from panoramic plastic sunroof peice.
Just happened to me with my 2016 GL450. Car was totaled. I am a lawyer and would certainly be interested in pursuing this issue.
Hi everyone, Mark, Bukidog, I have found where my leak is, despite MB saying I need a replacement sunroof etc. Hubby and I stripped the car out of everything. Had litres of water in boot and front footwell, all under the seats. The leak is in my car LHS on the roof rack rails in the middle. Water is travelling down the C pillar and then flooding into the back and front footwell. The fabric of the headliner disguises it and I only saw it with a torch after doing extensive testing. Within half an hour of spotting the water was gone and is not visible and doesn't stain the headliner either, due to the absorption properties in the headliner. Apparently, the metal can move if something is put on the rack - I bought approved used (JOKE) so who knows what previous owner did. If anyone wants to contact me feel free to email: suebritz@gmail.com Hopefully you all find yours.
I have this issue on a 2007 GL350. How do you drain it?

My ML350 leaked somehow and filled the rear compartment on the passenger side with water and fried the electronics. This was as a result of Hurricane Zeta. Insurance is denying me and saying that there is no way that water could come in. They tried to recreate the scenario with a water hose at the hatch and the sunroof with no avail. I am wondering if the roof rails may be the answer? Is there a way to check this without pulling the headliner?
We still do not know how the water got in my car but my damage was so bad the insurance company "totalled" my car. They put hoses on it for hours and couldn't replicate it. The strange thing is MB dealership didn't even try to sell me a new car. It's like they knew they had a problem and just had to make me go away.
I have a 2017 GLS. I was told that my sunroof drain clogged and water got stuck in the electric compartment and all my electrical is screwed and would need to be replaced. Quoted me 17,000$. Currently under insurance review but the service guys at mercedes said they have seen this before. How is this not a fault of design?! If I have trouble with my insurance I am going to look into legal action.
The same thing is happening to my 2015 c300 with 20k miles. Water started dripping in my front electrical console today. My ceiling has stains that look like mold is growing and my 7 year extended warranty apparently doesn’t cover the ceiling fabric, water/leaks, or mold. Is anyone here an attorney in the US that can share your info and take this on? Or create a google survey where we can drop our info if interested in pursuing this matter?

My 2015 GL350 dash started lighting up with all warning signals inoperative. Took to dealer and apparently water is saturated in the trunk of the car underneath floorboards and electrical system is likely on the fritz! How on earth is that even possible? Dealer told me before we go any further contact my insurance and open a claim! Not sure where this is gonna go but we will find out tomorrow!!
I filed a claim with my insurance company allstate. The covered the entire cost minus the deductible which was over 17,000$ worth of damage I was quoted by my mercedes dealership. I did not fell comfortable driving the car with possible shortages and mold so I sold the car to a salvage company. Ended up getting close to Kelly Blue Book. What a terrible build for mercedes to have the lines go by the electrical outlets.

I just bought a 2007 GLE 350 from the dealer.I found out it is leaking in the cargo area causing a very bad odor.Took it to the dealer .This is the fourth trip to get it fix.It is still there. Still under manufacture warranty as well the dealer preowned certify.I would recommend to look at other luxury vehicles to save your sanity rather dealing with the folks at Mercedes.

My 2015 GL 350 is considered unfixable due to water build up underneath the car and electronics are fried. Cost to fix around $30000 Cdn. Insurance are going to pay out for the current value of the car but now I need to purchase another. This is ridiculous. This $100,000 car lasted 5 years and now I get $35000 to buy a new car. Shouldn’t Mercedes be held accountable for poor manufacturing of this vehicle?
so , the roof bars racks whaterver are the problem , i see tomorrow if 100 percent. you need to remove the headliner to access the 2 2 2 bolts that remove each bar. it has some seals and sand and dirt are over those places. mine leaked from c pillar and traveled to the back over the sam. right side. it think it gets to the battery and trunk don t know yet. also upside of the rear lights, remove the trim , i mean the plastic near them , tou need to remove the shock absorber from the rear gate to remove it, you then expose a big seal that is covered in dirt and sand an need to clean and glue
I got the same vehicle with the same problem, I just came from the mechanic shop and they told me to file a claim to my insurance. They said the car has water all over the floor, battery compartment, and basically all around cables and modules on the floor. They said to fix it is going to be more than 6K since they don't know yet with components gone bad. Any help will be so much appreciated. I bought the car from a dealer that specializes in Branded Title cars. The CarFax report said hail damage, not water damage. Bukidog answered about a year ago Just happened to me with my 2016 GL450. GL450 (2010) - Water Damage under drivers seat. This Mecedes included additional feature called the AQUARIUM mode. Yes you can keep pet fish in your car! Place fish food in the luggage rack up above. The mold may kill you after some time but it's going to happen eventually. Just gave away my old (1998) Ford Expedition with 280,000 miles on it. Not a single water leak issue on that old boy. Now on the bright side, we are learning much about the quality build of these Mecedes as we take them apart to get rid of the water and the many damaged electrical components. The packaging and on the interior is very impressive. My apologies for the attempt at humor with the Mecedes Fish Compartment. -Rich

Hit this with my 2014 ML350 as well just a few months ago. There is now an official recall. I am so frustrated that I spent months and money getting this investigated on my own only to find out this is recall and Merc won't do anything since car is out of warranty by 1 year. Also, insurance is calling this wear and tear and won't cover it. I hope there is a Class action law suit, I have enough documentation to make claims here about how this death trap put me in danger since my car stalled while I was driving.
Was anyone here able to take legal action against Mercedes on this. This water damage under the entire passenger side has written off my vehicle and the insurance company is calling this wear and tear. If anyone was able to get a resolution from Mercedes could you let me know?
Hello I have an ml550 and the well that holds the AUX battery is full of water and messed up the computer . My vehicle wouldn’t start and once I got it started the car was dragging me and slamming into park . Very dangerous !!!! Anyway Mercedes’ has had my vehicle for over a month and they are trying to send me to insurance company . I got a copy of the recall but it states water comes in from back wheel well and mine is in AUX battery . Can someone help me or let me know if you have gotten anywhere with Mercedes???? HELP !!!!….

MB has given up responsibility and didn't even respond to my complaint via BBB and via their direct corporate contact. They shoved the safety issue under the rug claiming the car was "out of warranty" and then promptly issues a recall. They even refused reimbursement for my costs to get the car fixed through an independent shop. Take your car to the MB dealership - There is an active recall for this manufacturing defect which should fix the electrical damage due to the water leak which is causing the stall (325,000 impacted vehicles). They will NOT fix the water leak, MB and Insurance claim that is wear and tear. They will only make a "hole" in your car to drain the water out so your car doesn't turn into a death trap due to electrical shorting while driving - Hopefully. I am looking at attorney options at this point, it is beyond ridiculous how MB is treating this. Class Action lawsuit is inevitable.
Mercedes recently offered an extended warranty of 20yrs/unlimited-miles on the rear subframe for corrosion with perforation. This must be due to water intrusion. In that case shouldn't carpets/mode-damage also be included?

Hi All, did anyone get to the bottom of this? Having the same issue with my 2013 GL450. Car is totaled. Mercedes charged more than $4,000 just to say that car needs $31,000 in repairs? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
I call BS. I (c350) got carpets removed, dried out and reinstalled for under $500 from a a guy I know who worked at a body shop. Luckily I did it before mold or any electrical damage.
I have a 2012 GL450 with water intrusion in the passenger side rear tire well. The Rear SAM Unit has been flashing light out warnings for over a year for the entire rear, the suspension drops randomly, the tire pressure monitors & blind spot assist work randomly and the backup camera is out. Sunroofs drain properly, rear light gaskets were replaced and the rear door seal is good. No idea where the water is coming from.
This is for you smbevker or anyone. Your rear SAM run your tail lights & their codes are lighting up because you have water under your front passenger floor where the 30 pin data plug gets submersed under water & all these issues you typed to include water in the rear tire well. No electronics back there in the wheel well except in the sides of the car & higher up. Under the drivers floor carpet is the central gateway board. That computer board is bolted in w 2 x 10mm nuts & is under the black floor board. This comp board has your vin, miles, car info & more. you can access it w a small 1/4” ratchet without removing the floor rug, just lift it. You must removed the accelerator pedal to remove the drivers floor rug, so wedge 2 bottles of water between the rug & floor board so you can remove the bolts to the board to pry it up. But the central gateway under the drivers feet & the potential distributor under the passengers feet must be dried & drained. you should know MB put drain plugs in each well & 4 plugs in the back wheel well at the back of the car!! They know they flood. great revenue at our expense. *** I just repaired my mint 2016 GL450 X166 chassis from this flooding issue. It had flooded before but I thought it may be a clogged ac drain. After reading all the posts here, now I know its not the ac drain, its a MB design flaw wether its the roof rack or a non maintained water drain. . In my car also especially in the drivers footwell under the floor rug was a reddish clay water mark right up to the white paint indicating this water has been present for many many years. The battery box had the same issue. The headlamps started acting wacked out first where only one low beam headlamp would work & the opposing high beam if you switched to high beam. It would come & go. Then they wouldn't work, then they would. Yes, then all the electronics got wacked out. One day I left my home for a haircut & the car ran perfect. I parked & came back an hour later & NO START! But now on the dash was a passenger rt side srs (safety restraint system) warning & were others like road change safety inoperative & way more. I bought a good quality scanner & pulled up over 30 codes. I was shocked at finding what I found in the passenger floor footwell besides the potential distributor that the starter relay is bolted to, was the infamous data harness that sat under water & the car basically stopped thinking. 2 of 5 fuses on the potential distributor were blown that run the SAM’s which run all the outer lights. The 5 fuses in it are big & on all 5 fuses, one tab broke off into the plug as corrosion fused them together. So now only one female was open to slide a new fuse in its place w 2 males ends. I never found a used distributor. The battery & backup battery meet there to power the whole car & the red starter cable goes forward to it. MB wanted $550 just for a starter relay that NAPA sells for $25 with the same 12v 500 amp specs. THE REAL PROBLEM- The communications harness that goes into the sub frame both forward & to the rear of the car. This 30 pin plug harness has fine males pins. Mine was fused together by corrosion (SEE PICS) . It took me 2 hours just to get that plug apart by hand because you cant pry it apart. There is a slide lock that holds it together. When I did get it apart, 2 of the pins lay there broken off. I thought “game over & now it has to go to the dealer. I was lit to say the least. The thing is Mercedes Benz needs to be accountable for all of this. The photo included is the opened 30 pin harness plug after I cleaned the female side only back to a white color with DeOxit. Im sorry i can only post 1 photo here. I suspect I could buy flooded GL’s at auction & fix them. Anyways, I bought no new parts except my main battery shorted out. Im seeking legal avenues. I FILED A COMPLAINT W THE FLORIDA STATE CONSUMER COMPLAINTS ATTORNEY GENERALS OFFICE to document my issue. This took all of 5 minutes to file on my cell phone. Mercedes Benz MUST reply to my State filed complaint now. PLEASE: IF YOU OWN A 2012 to 2019 GL THEN PLEASE TAKE 5 MIN & FILE IT IF YOU HAVE NOT FILED ONE.
