Why does my 2003 Envoy sometimes sound like a diesel and lose power on acceleration? The problem is intermittent.

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

There are times when the engine of my 2003 Envoy suddenly changes pitch
and sounds like a diesel engine when I push the throttle down. The RPMs
seem high while in this mode as I am gathering speed. There is also a
significant loss of power from a standstill.

Yes sir, that would be your fan clutch. You described it perfectly. Replace your fan clutch. Normally this problem will set a check engine light, but not always. Replace it with a heavy duty one from an 08 or 09, those are the better ones. If you need guidance on how to do it, ask away, not that difficult.
