2014 doesn't like to start when it real cold

Asked by Tdllly Jan 09, 2015 at 08:58 PM about the 2014 Ford F-150 XLT SuperCab 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Brand new, 1 week old, when temp is 5degrees outside the starter doesn't even click
when I turn the key.  Repeated attempts 8-10 and the truck will finally start as normal.
When the key is turned everything acts normal except for the starting not responding,
not even a solenoid click. Happened three cold days in a row now.  Can't replicate the
problem for the dealer if it doesn't sit out in cold enough weather. I keep the truck in
the garage at home so it starts every morning without issue.  When it sits in the
parking lot at work all day and it cold enough the problem surfaces. Any suggestion
since the problem can't be easily replicated?

Sounds like a battery problem. The cold cranking amperage rating of the battery means just that.

I live down South. If the temp gets down to the mid thirties it is considered an arctic blast condition. Suppliers do a great business every year the first time the temp drops significantly.

Sounds dealer prep was not through enough. Have them recheck ALL battery and starter connections.

Determine what the lemon law is in your state. If you are under the time limit simply bring the vehicle back and pick out another one.
