Toyota Camry Hesitation issue

80

Asked by Lonnie Feb 07, 2015 at 12:22 PM about the 2014 Toyota Camry SE Sport

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I just bought a new 2014 Camry and traded in my 2012 Camry. I was told the bad
hesitation during acceleration was fixed. I had put up with it for 3 yrs with my 2012
model. Every time I asked about it I was told there was no problem or it couldn't be
fixed?  Noe my 2014 is even worse and very dangerous, I spoke with the service
manage at Fort Myers Auto Nation and he is going to open a ticket with Toyota Tech
but they want me to believe I am the only person with this problem? There are pages
of people on the internet experiencing the same issue, so why the stale to fix it? I told
them I would press the lemon law if they don't do something but I am not getting a
warm and fuzzy feeling.

Sounds like throttle position sensor or possibly mass air sensorneeds replaced. Any service codes

At this point Toyota is saying there is nothing wrong, therefore giving me no info. They are only opening a ticket because I am pressuring them to.

Tell them to adjust the brake peddle sensor. If it's out of adjustment a couple of millimeters it will cause the hesitation. At least that's the only info I could find. Hope that's the issue......

Sometimes floormats can interfere with pedal application or return. We used to attach them to the seat frame front inboard holddown. There was a simple part invented by a private individual. It resembled a large safety pin. This was used on many types of vehicles. You can report your concern to NHTSA and the MFR of the vehicle officially to seek their involvement. You could remove anything that interferes with the pedal and reverify your concern. You could demonstrate your concern for the service manager at the dealer and have the tech witness what it does. Driving a similar vehicle from the dealers stock and finding a difference can be demonstrative as well.

I just bought a brand new 2017 Camry XSE V6 and it almost stops in turns when I try to accelerate. Scary. I have 200 miles on it and taking it to dealer. This is NUTS.

I have 2015 with 8K mile it has the same hesitation at 1500-2000 RPM of engine. It runs smooth as long as the engine temperature below the normal operation temperature. shuddering starts when the engine reach the normal operation temperature.

Bdeasy, did the dealer find a solution to the hesitation?

Dealers will keep you stranded under TSB excuse and when your warranty will over they you have to pay diagnosis and later for presumptive reasons.

If you are a left-foot braker like myself, then you could be unknowingly causing the issue. For example, you are stopped at a red light or slowing down a bit to change lanes, etc. If your left foot is depressing the brake pedal even slightly when you also try to accelerate, then the brake will automatically disable/trump the accelerator, at least on newer models - try it in a parking lot to prove it out - I did.

It's the Toyota electronic throttle sensor, darned near got my wife killed. There is no cable from the pedal to the throttle body it's electric. Every Camry, at least since '12 has this. If you hit the pedal reasonably firm there's 2-3 second lag. I even tried a brand new. It's worse on 4 cyl.

I have a 2012 Camry V6. If you come off of a turn and accelerate modestly, it will hesitate. If you really go down, say 1/3 throttle, the engine comes alive, it downshifts to 1st gear and the tires squeal and smoke. They need a software update. It is dangerous. Scared me.

I also have a 2014 Toyota Camry LE with Throttle/Pedal problem. I called the dealer and Toyota Canada to report about this problem when I accelerate the car from 60km to 80 km/he it shakes like misfired and the car could not accelerate easily. Both the dealer and Toyota Canada confirmed that there is no recall for 2014 Camry. They recommended me to bring the car to the dealer for an inspection and that costs me $125.00 first. I have google searched about Toyota and this problem and found so many info confirming that many Toyota cars had or have this problem which became common for Toyota cars. The cost of replacing the throttle/peday is very expensive. What should I do ? Where should I complain to fix my problem?

I have a 2014 Camry SE, the battery was starting to fail so before i got to replace it, I had to use jumper cables a few times but all of a sudden I got a "Check Engine" light and ran the scanner on it and said "Low Voltage" . Deleted the error code but the issue is that the gas pedal has no response what so ever. ( the gas pedal lost function before I replaced the battery) anyone that went thru this and what needs to be done??

GREAT NEWS!!!!! the issue with the gas pedal was error code P2118 wich is the ETCS fuse (10) under the Hood. Chances are the fuse is no good, replace the fuse and have the error code deleted or reset, or do it your self the old fashion way by: -disconect the batery -open the ignition -touch both batery cables together to reset the computer -Conect the batery -Start your car Your gas pedal should be working just fine after these steps. I hope this is helpful to someone going thru the same issue.

I am having the same kind of bogging issue on my Toyota Camry 2013. when I accelerate the car start to bog, hesitate or it seems like gas can't get to the engine at 20mp and 45mp. In between or after those points it's fine. I replaced the air filter, replaced brand new premium spark plugs, and checked for any codes: 0 Codes!! No check engine light. I am going bonkers trying to figure out what it could be. Anyone have any pointers. I will be the happiest person in the world if anyone can help. Angel

Sad to say I also own a 2012 Toyota and have hesitation problems between 35 mph -45 mph . Glad to hear I'm not alone ! Don't know why there hasn't been a recall on these cars ? What's worse is that no one can fix it ! Crazy !!!

Sooo I am at Toyota as we speak and all the shuttering at 20mph and 50mph was the torque converter that was recalled from Toyota!! At last we found the problem!! We where never notified about the recall so Toyota extended the warranty till March 2021 to get this fixed and under 150 miles in the car. So if you guys are having this problem go get it diagnosed. Why didn’t Toyota tell us about this recall it could of saved me hours and headaches.

I just called the service dept of the dealership where I purchased my 2012 Camry SE. Once I described the issue with the hesitation, he said it sounds like the torque converter ($1500) and that my warranty had just expired on October 15, 2020. I was never informed about a recall so I am beyond pissed. I go in tomorrow for a diagnostic to be sure that is actually the issue.

I have a 2014 camry just over 120000 and it starts to hesitate from 40 to 45mph and then at 50 to 55mph. I've been reading and trying to find the solution to this problem. It seems its the torque converter which is a expensive part for sure. So i will get it check to see what happens. If thats the problem i will noted here.

Long Beach, CA Toyota dealer said repair program ended in May 2020. Not sure who & where it says Toyota extended repairs to March 2021. Any details to share?

Ok this is what i found and hopefully i can it fixed with no cost.Until October 31st, 2017 Toyota will reprogram applicable Camrys with new software to help prevent the shuddering of the torque converter under LSC E03.  If this does not fix the issue for the owner, Toyota will replace your torque converter (as per Toyota repair bulletin T-SB-0034-14 Rev1) as part of warranty enhancement CSP ZE5. The limited service campaign LSC E03 goes through October 31st, 2017 and can be done at any Toyota dealership free of charge – you should take advantage of this free campaign before then.  The enhanced warranty for the replacement of the torque converter is also good until April 30th, 2016 with no mileage limitations.  After April 30th, 2016 the warranty will cover any applicable Camry for 8 years from the date of the Camry’s first use or 150,000 miles, whichever comes first. As Eden Prairie and Chanhassen’s Toyota and Lexus repair specialist we hope this helps a Camry owner get their shuddering car fixed at no cost!

Hey Ramon, where is this dealer? State, city? Did they site the limited service campaign #? Looking for details to work with local dealers here in SoCal to get my vehicle fixed. Thanks!

Guys Toyota fixed the Torque Converter Recall for free since I met all the requirement. It's been 8 months since I got my car back and it's been SMOOOOTH SAILING!! There is no bogging, no shuttering, and no hesitation whatsoever. The best part, Toyota fixed it for FREE since it was a recall. I hope all you guys get this fixed before your car get to 150,000 miles.

Is 150k the new mileage limit, because I contacted one dealer and they told me the limit was something else.

420

Mark, Don't quote me on the 150K. That was the requirement 8 months ago when I first took my car in to Toyota. It could of changed since Toyota told me lots of people were having this Torque Converter Recall issue.

just an update for those with same hesitation shift issue; the response I received today from Toyota ". . because of the customer's lack of service history we are unable to assist with this repair". 127K miles with no major issues, only regular maintenance done by independent shops, and when something major finally goes wrong this (that Toyota has issued a LSC for) is how Toyota responds EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED!!! No more Toyotas for me.

That is just HORRIBLE I am sorry to hear that Mark!!! There has to be something Toyota can do because I KNOW how terrible it is to drive that car with that bad of bogging and hesitation. Very sorry to hear that!!

My 2014 Camry started doing it under 10,000 miles. Was told pretty much the same as everyone else. Nothing they can do to fix it. I now have 200,000 on it. Put the 3rd set of tires on it. It has a little worse hesitation but i have got over it. Should get 300,000 outta it

Hello everyone, I hope you guys are reading this because this will get ugly. I own a 2012 Toyota Camry SE (170,000 Miles), I had the same issues all you guys have stated, Toyota replaced my torque converter and programmed as well back in 2017! My camry was driving and was one of the most smoothest car. 4 years later I am having a hesitation while accelerating and while on a complete stop. I read other forums and it is looking like it might be the torque converter again. I will be taking it to Toyota ($150). I called the 1800 number and of course the warranty recall has been expired. I regret not selling my camry when this was fixed, I have to say it has been some great years with my camry. I will update soon, wish me luck.

I am having same issue with 2012 camry SE. It stutter around 40-60mph. I changed spark plugs, Ignition Coils, cleaned fuel injector. Nothing work. I won’t buy camry again for sure.
