ask your mechanic to mess with the ECU if its not an analog odometer
ECU and/or instrument cluster module will have to be reprogrammed, you may find the dealership is best equipped to do this.
D'oh, Ed you're right, I was thinking OP had replaced the odometer, but now reading it again, it does seem they only replaced the battery and it just reset a setting on the dash display. Good answer!
