Mice in interior of 2014 Santa Fe XL

Asked by S_Treece Jul 28, 2016 at 03:07 PM about the 2014 Hyundai Santa Fe GLS AWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

This last week has been horrible, trying to get the
mice out of our car. I first noticed the droppings on
my son's car seat, further investigation  I found a
nest under the 3rd row seat.
I've checked my cabin filter and there is no sign of
mice activity.
Is there somewhere else they could be getting in?
Sometimes when our hatch closes it doesn't seem
to completely close, could they get in there?

So far I've killed 5 mice, couple days ago ingot the
car a good clean and just now I've found more
poop. We're parking the car in the open and not in
the carport anymore. I'm at a loss and completely
disgusted with this. Please help, where are they
getting in?!

Check around the windshield cowl, make sure the screen for the vents are intact. Open the door, look along the jamb below the a-pillar for any vent openings. You may have one or more holes in the floor pan for shift linkages to pass through that would let the critters in under the carpeting. Same as there are holes in the firewall to let wiring and heater hoses and the like to pass through. Those holes should be blocked with a packing material or grommets, but you never know what they've been chewing on. Get em gone asap, they love to chew on wires.

WOW, where do you live, and how did this happen? Did you leave the vehicle out in a field??? And if you are using the vehicle everyday it seems inconceivable?? And, it's a 2014 car, really?

Our house backs onto a green belt, car is parked in the carport and driven daily. There were crumbs around my son's carseat, so I guess that baited them in. I've had wire mesh put in front of the cabin air filter, I'll have a crawl under the car to see if I can see anything else. I have 9 traps in the car, haven't had anything since Monday but I have found some droppings. Hopefully with the 9 traps if there is mice in there I'll get them.
