Hyundai Sonata Hybrid 2014 Airbag issues ?

Asked by vickey_gandhi Nov 24, 2015 at 05:22 PM about the 2014 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid Limited FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I had a brand new car Hyundai Sonata Hybrid 2014 Limited edition. Recently, I got into an accident with another vehicle (Truck), the collision was moderate to severe in the front driver side was severely damaged and the insurance company adjusted a total loss on the vehicle. My airbags did not function as the damage was severe and I was safe but still had some internal injuries such as back pain and shoulder pain. I was lucky that I was not injured but the question is How safe is this vehicle that the airbags didn't deploy ? I could have had my children in the vehicle.

vickey I can't say exactly how safe this year and model are, but I will tell you this, your car is no where near the only one to NOT set off the air bag. My personal feelings are that airbags are pretty much a joke because they are very unreliable. I have seen many totaled cars where the bags never deployed and just as many very minor bump type accidents where they did deploy but should not have. I do not completely believe the results of any "safety crash tests". As far as I am concerned, airbags are just not worth the problems they cause in vehicles, and they actually have a projected life span and are recommended to be changed after a certain amount of time and are way to expensive to be changing. I know this will probably tick off a lot of people, but just sayin.......
