Question type: Car Customization

I recently bought a 2014 Jetta se. It came with stratus 20" rims.  I am looking
for a smoother and safer ride. Is there any benifts to keeping these other than
the look..should I go stock, or perhaps 17" or 18"?  Do these wheels lower
the clearance?  Under educated.
Thanks

Thanks tennisshoes. I actually have an appointment tomorrow for a recall issue. I will ask them about the mods. If any modification was done would it void my warranty? I am actually still under bumper to bumper. Side note: I researched that stock rim size on 2014 is 16" rims. I could be wrong though. For clearance of the bottom I'm just used to a Subaru Forester before it was totaled. Before that Chevy S-10 ZR2. So I need to be careful going over bumps. I heard it scrap twice already. Thanks again.
