I have a 2000 GMC Jimmy with the factory stereo unit and I want to install a powered sub in my SUV. Will I be able to hook up the sub the the factory unit?

Typically, yes but it may not give you the sound you are seeking. Consider also replacing the head unit with a more modern one. The hook-ups will be easier and the sound quality will likely be improved. Since your vehicle is almost 15 years old, I would also check the condition or the existing speakers if they are the originals.
