Fuel not getting to engine

1. Is there enough fuel in the tank? (I know sounds sarcastic but my Buick Road Master stopped and the gauge said I had 1/8 of a tank; had it towed and found it was out of gas). 2. Check the fuses and relays. (can you hear the pump kick on for a few seconds when you first turn the key on?). May be a bad fuel pump.
