Engine swap

Asked by Bgkelly1996 Jul 22, 2017 at 02:07 PM about the 2000 GMC Sonoma SL Ext Cab Short Bed 2WD

Question type: Car Customization

I got a four cylinder 2000 Sonoma/S10. I was
wondering if a could take an older small block v8
and do a swap without having to switch the trans.
Its an auto. And rear wheel drive. The motor doesnt
exactly have to be older either. As long as its
something with some power and a nice rumble.

Google S-10 V8 swap. Even if you could bolt up a V8 to the 4 banger transmission which you cannot it would blow up the first time you floored it.

The 2000 Sonoma 4 cyl. has a 4L60E automatic transmission The very same that is behind the V8 engines. You should change the torque converter. Unles you want the higher stall speed the 4 cul converter will produce. A carburated small block will bolt right up to your transmission. But you will need to address the electronics. It will not shift without the computer. But its very easy to modify the original computer to make it work with the carbed V8.
