Purpose of slot in dashboard

There is a slot just above the light switch on the left side of the dashboard that I have no idea what it is for. I would very much like to know it's purpose.

Storage, or you can do anything you want there like when adding accessories.

I have been putting my business cards in it but im sure it has another purpose.
