Alarm problem concerning the GEM

Asked by well Nov 11, 2020 at 04:44 AM about the 2002 Ford Ranger 2 Dr XLT Extended Cab SB

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

If I replace the GEM module on an 02 ranger, should I purchase one new or will
a used part suffice?  Thanks.

Disclaimer...I work for a Ford dealership as a parts manager. I personally do NOT like used parts unless obtaining used is absolutely necessary. New and OEM (Ford) is almost always the best approach. It may cost a little more , but usually worth it. Now a GEM module may or may not be available from Ford. In that case a used one will be required. Try to find one from a low mileage truck. Local salvage yards or online auctions are good sources. Try to get one with a warranty. Good luck with it.
