Why does my 2002 Ford Ranger Lurches while driving?

Asked by Sean Sep 29, 2014 at 10:52 AM about the 2002 Ford Ranger 2 Dr XLT Extended Cab SB

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2002 Ford Ranger 4.0 V6 with 113,000 miles.  While driving between 40 and
50 to 55 mph, the truck lurches forward and back.  No other time does it do this.  It idles
fine.  It shifts fine and smooth. It has power and otherwise runs great. I have changed
plugs, plug wires and fuel filter. I have run highest octane gas in it and ran Lucas fuel
cleaner through it for a while now. I have a hard time believing it is transmission related
because there is no slipping noticed and it shifts smooth with power.  It does this
lurching whether cold or hot. Short and long trips and it can be felt by anyone driving or
riding.  Driving me crazy.  It has to be some sort of fuel delivery or miss. The check
engine light has never come on.  I have not had it hooked up to a code scanner yet.
Any ideas people. Help me out before I snap. PLEASE!!!!
