2006 Tahoe 5.3l won't manually go into first.

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

So I bought a old 2006 Tahoe PPV a while back and it's been awesome. Runs great. But one thing I noticed is it won't manually go into 1st. It will go in when on D and 4th still works so I don't think it's a solenoid (unless it's starting to go bad) but it just won't engage into 1st. It stays in 2nd. I've looked all over for this issue and was just going to change the solenoids and see but if that's not the issue in the first place then I'm not going to waste my time. Anyone have any idea what this could be?

The shifter will go into the 1st gear position with no hesitation just like the rest but it just won't engage the transmission into first. I'll check that solution out and see but doesn't seem likely to be the culprit.

Ok so youre saying to undo the linkage and try and drive it in 1st and if it moves in 2nd then it's valve body? Or if it starts in 1st then it's valve body?

Ok so in 1st, it starts out in second. So I put it in first and tried to OD to first and it works kinda but my car will jump over and over like it's slipping. But in D if I OD to first it's fine... This issue is really confusing me.

Haha ok so if I go from stopped in extreme position, its in second when I start to move. Not 1st. But if I try to overdrive(petal to the metal) then it drops to first BUT the car will jump. Hard to explain when I mean by jump. As if it's going in and out of first every second or so. But if I'm in drive and step on it to over drive. It drops to first and goes no problem. Does that clerify a little?
