Why does it feel like mild engine braking whenever I take my foot off the gas pedal in my 2015 ford explorer sport, kind of annoying.

The transmission is probably down shifting which is what you feel. Bring it back to the dealer if you believe it is not correct. If they tell you it's normal, then test drive another vehicle comparably equipped.

Thxs. I'll monitor the tachometer next time I come to a long downhill. I don't think it is down shifting as I would likely notice. I'll keep you posted.

That is exactly the same thing I experience while coasting downhill. It's a different driving experience than my old car (2002 Ford Explorer). I've found that up shifting with the paddle shifters improves the glide if I am not keep pace with the cars ahead, or applying a bit of gas. thxs

Also, make sure your are driving the vehicle with the automatic overdrive operating. If you turn off the automatic overdrive the dragging feeling is more noticeable.

Any ideas because my 2017 Ford Edge does the same thing on level ground. Is this normal for this vehicle? Thanks

mild braking may be normal on downhill coasting. Without input from the engine I would seem the forward movement would be working backward through the transmission against the engine speed. I am a much older driver. Most of the vehicles I drove when young were three speed standards. If you removed your foot from the gas in 3rd gear, or any gear for that matter, you would definitely feel a braking action.

I have a 2017 Ford Edge that does the same thing on flat ground. I feel this is not good for gas milage. I let off the gas on flat ground and it feels like it is breaking.
