add a third-row seat to my car

Asked by mikesela Jul 28, 2011 at 08:24 AM about the 1998 GMC Envoy 4 Dr STD 4WD SUV

Question type: Car Customization

I am the proud owner of a 1998 – 4X4 -GMC - YUCON SUV. Being a vehicle expert for more than 40 years I would like to add a third-row seat to my car for more passenger comfort.
Could you please advise me as of your view of this possibility?

I found a kit from a seller on EBAY who sells a reproduction of the recessed floor slots/strikers that must be bolted or welded into the rear cargo area floor of the YUKON/TAHOE/SUBURBAN. Then any 3rd row seat 1995-1999 will fit into these slots. He is "out of stock" right now. Do a search on EBAY for 3rd row seat YUKON and you may find another seller.

Thank you very much for your reply. Is adding a third row acceptable with the car's original build? Could there be any concerns such as safety or others? Best wishes Mike

Mike, there should ALWAYS be concerns when installing aftermarket items that were not originally intended from the manufacturer. That is why you should have a professional insure the brackets are securely welded or bolted in and that the seat belts are working properly.
