Is it possible to reroute the wire of the cigarette lighter (normally used to charge accessories), to turn off once the car is turned off?

Asked by Gjardim101 Jul 13, 2016 at 01:39 PM about the 2015 GMC Acadia SLT-2 FWD

Question type: Car Customization

At 2015 Acadia, the cigarette lighter outlet is directly connected to the battery,
and does not turn off when the car is turned off. So, if you forget a phone or
anything charging at this outlet, it drains the battery. I discussed with an
advisor at Williamson Automotive and he said it is not possible to reroute the
wire for this device to turned off.

How dare you doubt "Williamson Automotive" who are they anyways? Yes the power outlet / cigarette lighter can be wire to a keyed (ON/OFF)power source with a fuse too. What is their address so I can bill them as an advisor! Regards

Hardest part will be getting to the wire that needs to be "re-routed". Putting a fuse in the line would be a good idea as Auto Centric said.

Thank you Auto_Centric. You are right, the good question is "who are they?". The answer is easy: Williamson Cadillac / GMC, of Miami, is THE WORST service provider I ever took my cars to. Never more.
