Is the Forward Collision sensor suppose to disconnect the cruise control

Asked by MIRanger May 13, 2019 at 11:06 AM about the 2015 GMC Acadia Denali AWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2015 GMC Acadia Denali, before it was in an accident, I remember the Forward collision sensor coming on at about 100m (green), and when I got to about two car length turning amber, if I had the cruise control on, it would disconnect it (like tapping the brake) if I got within one car length. I am talking about highway speeds, and it usually happened when I was having to wait to pass someone because a car was in the left lane, and it would happen as I went to pass them. My truck was in a minor accident, where the front bumper was removed (to repair damage), and after I got it back, the sensor comes on about the same time (green), but changes to amber very late (one car length) and never disrupts the cruise control. My Body shop has taken it to two dealerships which tell him it is functioning normal. Are they correct? [And no it is not adaptive cruise control like the later models].

You seem well versed in your Acadia's functions. I believe you can change the reaction points on this collision control system via a menu setting. You can't turn it off but I believe there are 3 settings available to you. Check out your menu and see if you can adjust the sensitivity this way.

Thanks taver91. Yes, just below the touch screen there are two "buttons" one turns Collision Alert on or off, and the other sets the distance for the alerts. I believe the vehicle has to be in park to adjust them. I was able to readjust the sensor to medium, it was on near, and it cut off the cruise control properly...for a little while. It seems to have adjusted itself again, and I am back to the previous problem. I think I will take it back to the dealer and say the setting won't stay where I set it.
