Very similar to the problem I had....Try using an AC Delco brand distributor cap. Took me months to figure it out, after replacing the cap several times with different brands. The other brands worked great for a day or two, then crapped out. This info was VERY hard to find, but I read that aftermarkets FOR THIS VEHICLE seem to have a design flaw where they will short out quickly, or come out of the box with hairline cracks allowing moisture in.
