Why does my '98 GMC Safari stall while I am accelerating?

My Safari stalls while I am accelerating.  Then the power steering and brakes
become very difficult to use.

Check the sparking system. It may just have a bad rotor and distributor cap. Every once and a while the coil will go and some times the control unit will start to go. I would say Do a general maintenance on it plugs rotor distributor cap and cables if you open the dog house and see a light show like these mini vans often did.. especialy in damp weather
