Starting problem
Asked by Tomah1961 Dec 03, 2015 at 01:46 PM about the 2015 Ford Mustang GT Coupe RWD
Question type: Maintenance & Repair
I have a intermittent starting problem with my 2015 Mustang GT. I
depress brake pedal and push start button which is how you start this car. I
get a loud sounding switch noise from underneath the hood and car will not
start. I repeat this procedure, sometimes many times until car starts.
Dealer is of no help. They say they can't duplicate the problem so as far
as they are concerned there is no problem.

Sounds like it may be a bad starter. I would rap on the starter with a heavy metal object like a hammer and at the same time have someone else try starting car. If it starts then you have a bad starter.
Keep hammer away from the starter and go back to the dealer or try another dealership. Also maybe take a video of the issue from under the hood while someone is trying to start the car. Take the video and the car to the dealer. If they are not helpful talk to the service manager and if necessary the general manager. Another thing you could do is to closely inspect the electrical connections at the starter. Connection could be loose.
Keep in mind that intermittent electrical issues are often difficult to diagnose and may be just as frustrating for your dealership service department as they are for you.

was there a resolution to the staring problem?? Have the same thing with my 2016 eco. the dealer replaced the starter, but did not fix. why they did not do a bench check of the starter is beyond me. Mechanics are trained and not educated. they follow a procedure and then call the factory. car now at dealer for week and a half.
bigdog1026, we have had our 2016 Mustang in the shop 7 times since purchasing 6 months ago with 3,389 miles on it at purchase. It is at the dealership more than on the road. The car will start, back out and it goes dead. All accessory power is working - lights, air, radio, etc. the push button continues to blink green until the car resets itself which can be a very long time. Up to an hour and 37 minutes as of yesterday. They have replaced battery, fuel control module and fuel pump. Obviously, nothing has worked and Ford doesn't want to buy it back. Any answers to your Delia??? We hate our Mustang now. No fun in it now, We are considering seeking legal council to attempt to resolve this matter.

Hello 2wilsons I feel your pain, but cannot offer any suggestions. returned the pony to the dealer again, they had it for a week and replaced the ECU. It started fine for a month then began going intermittent again. it got worse and worse. Anyhow, my problem is in the starting. once started, the car runs fine without trouble. Returning it is not an option. I have modified it for shows and Xcross. So my fix (?) was to install a switch which put 12v power directly to the starter. I push the start button which activates the everything (but the starter does not work), take my foot off of the brake, push down on the aux switch to start. Perhaps 25% of the time, the starter will go the first time. if not, I can push the switch five times in a second. the starter will usually operated within the first five pushes.
