2015 Ford Escape 2.0L turbo, bottom of muffler and tailpipes covered black soot?

2 things come to mind. You could be seeing normal black residue from the exhaust tail pipe getting on the outside of the exhaust tip or it could be from a weep hole under the muffler. Many exhaust systems have weep holes in them (smaller than 1/8"). They are small holes to allow water that is produced during the combustion process to drain. These weep holes make the muffler last much longer. The Ecoboost engines make the exhaust pipes fairly black inside. Probably more soot than one would expect. I would guess that it is normal. A picture would be helpful. More info at the link.....http://www.fordescape.org/forum/engine-technical- discussion/34754-black-soot-exhaust.html
I did not know about the drain holes. It appears the soot is coming out of them on the bottom of the muffler. thank you.
You are very welcome, glad to help.
