Seat motors won't partially don't work

Asked by Charlene Mar 30, 2016 at 03:28 PM about the 1997 BMW 3 Series 328i Convertible RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My seat motors aren't working properly.  The seat moves forward and back but
the back of the seat doesn't adjust at all. Also the passenger seat won't lift with
the lever, do I need to take it out to connect it?
Anyone know of a great bmw expert in southern califoria.... Redlands area or
close.

Start with the fuses. Ensure that they are not blown, or are in a "connected" state. If this is doesn't fix it, look at the electrical under the seats if possible, moving back and forth over 19 years can cause wires to fray. If all the electrical lines up, then I would pull some used motors from a salvaged or junked BMW of the same year and model. Unfortunately one a german car starts to go... it goes. Best of luck! I hope this helps!

yeah, you got a 20 year old German car- when all those little things start to go it is annoying- I sold one of my favorite drivers, a 1988 BMW 7 because it had too many little things like that gone wrong- and I could not see spending the considerable amount of time and money it was gonna take-to make that car livable-
