Valve Stem Seal

Asked by EOman Jul 20, 2018 at 02:57 PM about the 2010 BMW 5 Series Gran Turismo 550i xDrive AWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I’ve been told that my 2010 Gran Turismo 550i
needs valve stem seals replaced for $6,000!!!
The car has 64,000 on it. Should I spend the money
or is this due to bad engineering that will come up
again?

Thank you for your input. It is a seal above the engine. I was told that it is the result of a faulty part that is now part of a class action lawsuit. I went ahead and had it fixed because I can’t afford a new car right now and I’d really get dinged if I tried to sell it as is. I just hope it holds up. Thank you for your comments though.
