Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Will the tranmission from a 1995 GMC Sanoma 2wd fit in a 1997 gmc yukon 4wd. I had a friend look at it, and he thinks the tail shaft is too long on the Sanoma, please help.

Agreed with madmopar. The shaft can be swapped but that means the tranny must be dis-assembled. Also the '95 Sanoma would have the 700r4/4L60 and the Yukon uses the 4L60e. The older tranny would work if the t/v cable was connected to the throttle. Your yukon would throw codes with the e tranny not connected though. Better off starting with either of the above 4wd trannies or getting your rebuilt with warrenty. Speaking from experience (4 700r4's and 1 4L60e in the same truck) this tranny style is weak and a gamble if their history is unknown.

Thanks guys, you confirmed what my ASCE mechanic buddy texted me, but wanted a second clarification before I pull trigger and spend $1650 at NAPA. When I researched which vehicles would be a cross fit for this, no one mentioned 4wd and the length tail shaft, dang it. Thanks for your quick responses, well Im off to Napa in the morning.

Just cover your bases with the paper work to ensure your covered if they sell you the wrong tranny. Give them your vin to match your part. There are variations of the 4L60E that may cause headaches. Most pre- 98's are one piece with the 4 bolt hole pattern on the output while the newer one has a removable bell housing and a 6 bolt output pattern, you can get the 6 to 6 adaptor from a newer truck not a show stopper. Most pre- 95's had the on/off torque convertor while the newer units had the "PWM" progressive torque converter lockup. Apparently they are not compatible. Also they swaped wiring on the 2-3 shift solenoids around '96? I need a new 4L60e and have been checking them out, don't mean to scare yah, just want it to work for yah.
