Fuel pump 96 gov safari

While driving I hear a humming sound
that I believe is the for then van shuts
off is this a bad fp or could it be
electrical problem as it seems to
happen when van has been running
for a while I replaced fp sending unit
and filter it does happen when I have
half of a tank sometime but more so
when it's a quarter tank or less

It could be the fuel pump. It will quit a couple times and then it will finally die completely. You don't want to be far from home when this happens. You have to jack up the van and lower the fuel tank to get at the pump. (Mine's a '95 and its pump died around this time last year).
