Why is my car shutting off ?

Asked by Taci Jan 31, 2024 at 10:45 AM about the 2015 Chevrolet Sonic LT Hatchback FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

When I go to start my car it stalls and takes a minute
but always starts. I was sitting at a red light and when
I went to go it’s like the car had no power I had to
turn it off and back on. It’s also shut down as if it had
no power in the middle of me driving. Any ideas why?
It Does have a check engine light but it says the ‘cam
shaft sensor’ which we have fixed three times.

Then obviously it did get fixed. Diagnostics need to be done right.

the trouble code tells you where the problem is not necessarily what to replace . Technicians/mechanics like plug and play solutions , they don't seem to like having to figure something out or solving a problem like this

Obviously the issue wasn’t fixed and I’ve taken it to multiple mechanics. This is literally to ask questions. If you don’t have a helpful answer, don’t reply.

Then find an independent shop in your area that has good reviews, take it too them, tell them what it is doing and what has been done so far, they may need to keep it for a few days to run a live data scan on the vehicle to see what is messing up and when. Then they can tell what is going on.

I had that problem years ago with my 1990 Olds Cutlas Calais. It died one day right as s i got to the city. A guy came around to help. adjusted something under the front end, and told me he worked for a transmission shop, and that this had something to do with the tranny. Took it to his shop and drove the car another 12 or 5 years with out the problem resurfacing;
