Can A 2015 Honda Accord Be Equipped With 225/65R17 Tires ?
(Background - I previously owned a 1997 Nissan Altima with the 5-speed manual transmission. I always wished that it'd had an addional 6th gear so that the engine RPM would be lower at highway speeds for better MPG.)
i now own a 2015 Honda Accord EX (4-cylinder engine) with the 6-speed manual transmission.
The 1997 Nissan Altima's (4-cylinder) engine and the 2015 Honda Accord's engine (4-cylinder) have almost identical displacements.
The 1997 Altima's engine RPM to roadway MPH in 5th gear (its highest) was essentially identically to the 2015 Accord's engine RPM to roadway MPH in 6th gear (its highest). (2,000 RPM engine speed gives 54 MPH.)
I wish that there was a way to change the Accord's final drive ratio from 4.105 to 3.40 but don't believe that there is (and even if so I couldn't afford it). Doing this would cause the first 5 gears to generate the same engine RPM to roadway MPH as is presently covered by all 6 gears ... thus leaving 6th gear to act as a true 'overdrive' gear.
As the 'next-best-thing' .... two questions :
1. Are the wheel wells of the Accord large enough to accomodate 225/65R17 tires ? (initial measurements by me seem to indicate that they are)
2.) Do the speedometer and odometer in the Accord use some form of electronic calibration that would allow them to be recalibrated to read correctly with the larger tires ?
(thanks)
