Asked by Guru8D5D9 Dec 23, 2019 at 06:43 PM about the 1995 GMC Jimmy 4 Dr SLE 4WD SUV

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I turn the key but the engine sounds frozen. I
hear the starter want to engage but seems
frozen like seized. I know it's not seized. I
tried neutral too and nothing. I spun the
crank shaft a little bit and it turned over and
froze up again. Idk

Starter brushes inside your starter are worn out normally I will refurbish it but better to get another starer

So it's the brushes? It's weird when I turn the key it makes a clinking sound off the flywheel or something. Would tapping it with a hammer work temporarily?

The resistance you're feeling when you turn the crankshaft by hand is from the compression of the engine. Perfectly normal. Sounds like a bad starter. Hope that helps! Jim
