What is the estimated MPG for the 1957 Chevy Bel Aire convertable, 283 with 4 barrel carburetor?

My guesstimate is that you should be able to get 17 -18 mpg out on the highway if you don't drive to fast. This is assuming you don't have stump pulling gears and that the engine in good shape, tuned properly and is mild, not a hotrod. Installing a high performance ignition could help the fuel economy.

I have ran 283's a lot in the day. I am talking 30-40yrs ago. If my memory is good I would say you are about right.
