i just got a bmw in February and the low oil light has came on twice is this normal

If the oil level is up and correct, NO this is not normal contact your Dealer.

Pretty sure that your vehicle has no dipstick and level is monitored by a sensor. Take it to BMW ASAP, if the oil level is indeed low engine damage can result. If the oil level is okay adding more oil to the engine is not good either.

I agree with the other two, take it to your BMW dealer. I don't think you have a dipstick on your car, so there is no other way to check the oil than the car's computer.
