57 Chevy Transmission

Asked by Evelyn Feb 08, 2017 at 09:59 PM about the 1957 Chevrolet 210 Sedan

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 57 Chevy with 3 on the tree. I am having trouble with it hanging up
between 1st,and 2nd gear! I also have a problem with it jumping out of high
gear when I am driving about 60 mph. Can this be adjusted with the linkage, or
do I need to rebuild the transmission?

Adjusting shift levers might help for the 1st-2nd sticking point, as well as the slipping out of gear, your shift lever might not have enough range of motion to get the 3 speed into the detent. If you can hold it in gear with the shift lever, that's a good indicator. They also wear, the clutch gear & sleeve, causing them to slip out of gear.

You might want to try a more technical car forum like trifive.com, chevytalk.org or jalopyjournal.com, those guys live for 55-56-57's
