Check engine light on for mass air flow sensor after already replacing?
Asked by Speedy2197 Feb 26, 2019 at 11:40 AM about the 2015 Nissan Sentra SR
Question type: Maintenance & Repair
I have a 2015 Nissan Sentra SR and a while back the check engine light came
on and read code P0101 for mass air flow sensor. I went and replaced the
sensor and then cleared the code. However, the check engine light just came
back on again and is reading the same code for the mass air flow sensor. Can
someone please help?

first step is to always check the fuses. if the fuse is ok, you will need to check the wiring to the sensor itself. Its not that hard, but you will need a multi meter. you can go to easy auto diagnostics .com and they will walk you through the steps. you will be testing for power, ground, and signal from the computer. not that hard if you follow the instructions.

This is a circuit range/performance code. the maf is operating outside its predetermined programmed operating parameters. issues cld be a vacuum leak, intake restriction, exhaust restriction, things things that are gonna make maf voltage lower or higher than they should be. not missing

This is a air turbulence issue. The throttle plate gets dirty and restricts air flow because of carbon build up. To fix this issue you’ll have to see if your PCV is either orange or black. If it’s orange you’ll need to replace it and clean your throttle plate. Then perform the throttle body relearn. Once you do that it should fix the issue. Former Nissan technician and there were TSB for this particular code
JaysPerformance What if the PCV is black ?
My 2013 Sentra SR has the same code p0101 for Mass air flow. I cleaned the sensor and CEL went off for a while but came back recently. My PCV is orange, should I replace with a new black pcv or new orange Pcv??
Hi, are you still having this problem or have you discovered the issue? I'm having the same issue with my car, which is the same make, model and year. A friend is having the same problem with her car too, which is a 2014 same make and model.
TSB: technical service bulletin. Mine did this a little over a year ago under warranty. Tech stated they found nothing wrong and car was fine. Although acting as in in limp mode. A month ago it happened(out of warranty) I’m a diesel technician so familiar with engine and diagnostics) found a bad terminal in my ecm plug. Fixed, relearned all the sensors and car was fine. Month later it’s doing it again. Same codes same symptoms but From the looks of it it’s not even MAF it’s the TPS flaking out
JaysPerformance7 thank you so much for your wise words. It was right on. I also got new sparks plugs which my mechanics all said they're fine but thanks to another youtube poster who pointed they're not always visibly bad plus one has to follow the maintenance schedule, obviously. Now the car is running like brand new. Smooth, so much more power, better mpg and no more rpm surges with a little uphill. I even now thin all this Sentra transmission problems might be coming from plain bad scheduled maintenance.

My car is doing the exact same thing, same codes.. but not it’s kind of shutting off on me while at red light, stop signs. It’s 2014 Nissan Sentra .. what exactly did y’all do to fix the problem?
That is exactly what was happening to mine as well, I had to cross a few red lights to fet out of trouble. See Jays Performance7 post. His instructions were spot on for me at least. Let me know if you still have questions.
I have a 2015 Sentra and my car is currently doing this I left it at a shop yesterday, everyone told me it was my transmission failing but my code reads maf circuit. ♀️

I am taking my car in for an update on my engine, P0101 keeps popping up even though I replaced the air flow sensor.

My Nissan Sentra 2016 SR engine light came on and was advised it was the mass air flow sensor. Waiting for appointment to take car in however yesterday was driving home from work and it smelled like gas coming in from the vents.. Has anyone else had this issue? Is it related to the mass air flow? Thank you

It seems like this is a frequent issues with sentra’s. This should be a recall.
For all of you who are having this issue, you can visit NHTSA.gov to file a complaint. Too many of us with Nissan Sentras are having this exact same issue. A lot of people don't know that the more complaints with the nhtsa.gov the will look into this issue.

I have a 2015 Nissan Sentra and just last year this same time my check engine light has come on and the code read that I needed a mass air flow sensor when today I just got it replaced again. I have done some research and have seen a lot of others with Nissan that are having these same issues. I'm just curious that is this just a bad part and that Nissan needs to do a recall on the mass air flow sensor. Come next year I pray I don't have this same problem.

What exactly would need to be reported in order to file the complaint. I have a 2013 Nissan Sentra and I have replaced the Throttle Body Chamber and Connector in regards to the P0101 code. The Check Engine light continues to come on with the same code.
