How to reset THIS sunroof

Asked by 2016Sorento Aug 12, 2020 at 04:48 PM about the 2016 Kia Sorento SX V6 AWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

2016 Sorento with panoramic sunroof does not function in automatic modes,
does not stop at closed (goes into vent mode), sunshade does not function
properly, must be trying to reset system as per manual to get it to move.
When performing reset, roof never closes, always goes to vent when switch
held in close position. Sunshade closes after holding switch in close for 20
seconds, this is while glass is in vent position. Sunshade opens again if
switch held in close position. Can only get glass and shade closed by getting
shade closed then pushing switch towards open until vent closes. Glass will
open and close vent at this position by changing direction of switch motion.
Have set glass and shade in closed positions, disconnected battery for 30
minutes, ran reset multiple times all to no avail, still ends up at vent open
unless manually closed with switch.
Any ideas?

I get the impression there are no 2016 Kia Sorento Panoramic Sunroof experts reading these posts. No answers, no suggestions, no guesses, nothing but the standard owners manual reset procedures that popped up when I posted it and that was due to "key word" responses that barely address the problem. Time to call "real" experts.

Hi we just bought a 2018 Sorento and the sunroof did the same thing as "2016Sorento" After messing with it I tried a gut feeling and shut the car off while manually closing the sun roof at about half way. After that it would close and stop without going into vent position before closing the shade. It was then possible to do the factory reset and now auto mode works and all is good, hope this helps.

Same exact issue as the OP on my 2019 Sorento SXL. Does anyone else have a remote car start system installed? Wondering if that can somehow interfere with anything. Though the car start has been working fine for the last year that I've had it. Things I tried so far: -unplugging car battery for 30 minutes -removing both the 20A fuses relating to the sunroof -attempted factory reset procedure multiple times -Sorentosteve's suggestion

Do this reset procedure. Make sure your sunroof is in the switch all the way forward, vent position with the shade fully open. You can get the shade fully open by holding the switch in the forward position for 10-15 seconds. Turn off the car. Open and close driver's door. Wait 5 seconds. Hold switch in the all the way open position and turn on car. Wait 5 seconds and let go of the switch. Press forward position 5 times. Wait one second. Press forward position once. Press and hold forward until the shade closes and opens. Press and hold DOWN position until sunroof opens and closes, and shade closes. This should fix it.

Worked on 2017 Kia Cadenza. During procedure, my car was on in drive with my foot on a brake pedal Panoramic Sunroof Reset Procedure: 1. Ensure the ignition is ON,the panoramic sunroof, and roller blind are completely closed. 2. Fully depress and hold the sunroof switch in the closed position and DO NOT release it until the roller blind fully opens and the sunroof glass vent position opens (about 15-20 seconds). 3. Once the vent opens, release the switch for 1-second and fully depress and hold the sunroof switch in the closed position again until sunroof glass fully opens then closes and the sunshade fully closes

My roof would not close got stuck an kicked back fully open required brute force to close it past mid position. Would stop 3”from closing completely. Lubricated the front tracks still wouldn’t slide closed !! Wasn’t until I lubricate from rear shoe between the weather stripping to the back completely that the roof would slide effortlessly and stop 3” short of closing completely Took a few tries on my 2020 Kia Serento reset roof and roller shade to factory operation. If your roof is not fully closed follow the procedure above exactly especially step 2. For the roller shade to open completely a Roof in the vent position. The proceed to step 3! The reset worked and brought my roof the to complete automatic operation and factory sequencing !!
