oil

Asked by denisegooden Aug 10, 2018 at 03:44 PM about the 2015 Jeep Renegade Latitude 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I saw a you tube where a young man was told a jeep renegade over 50,000 can used a quart of oil every 750 miles without there being a leak. True or False.

Any car could use that much oil. My new Subaru used about that much. Just because a car can use that much does not mean they all do.

It's true. I was just at the dealership where they explained to me that the 2.4L engine takes 0W-20 and that oil is practically the consistency of water. Because of this, it makes the oil flow easier throughout the engine, and causes it to use more than normal. They said what Jeep didn't educate the consumer about is that with these newer Jeeps, the oil should be checked after every other fill up with gas. At 500 miles, our Jeep was 1/4 of a court below the full mark on the dipstick (this was right after the dealership had changed the oil and wanted us to bring it back to make sure it wasn't using too much oil after 500 miles). They said that according to Jeep, ours was within the normal limits of the amount of oil used for that many miles, and that now we know how and why the oil ends up being too low alot of times, so we can keep an eye on it. They agreed themselves that it's not practical for a vehicle to use oil and to have to constantly be adding oil after a couple of fill ups, but that's just how these newer jeeps are.
