in the 35 years that i have owned a auto shop i have never seen a dtc trouble code or po code p03w0 something is wrong with the info you have been givin. most auto part stores will scan and give you a code for free. please check your info and write back and ill do my best to help. techshoprepair@ aol.com
First we need to know the criteria used to determine the cars problem because you mentioned 2 issues that could both prevent the car from starting. Most cars with a fuel pump make a audible sound when you first turn the key on. With your seat belt buckled and no sounds in the car (fans off, radio off etc) turn the key to the run position and you should hear your fuel pump come on for just a few seconds ..then go off. If you hear that then your pump is probably OK. To check for the sensor ... Remove the air filter then spray some starter fluid into the duct going to the engine and crank the engine ... if it doesn't try to start at all then it COULD be the sensor
P0320 is crank shaft sensor ... look at video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mFZFjN8v9f4

just alittle more info; first never use starter fluid on a fuel injected motor, its much more safe using carb cleaner second a sound test will tell you if the fuel pump is turning however will NOT tell you if its pumping as to the crank sensor you will be looking for a sensor with two wires one brown and red the other white and red ,it will be located on the lower front right side, or if its a zetec motor will be lower left rear of engine( remember the front has all the belts and right and left will be as if you were riding the motor facing the belts. easy to replace should be held in place with one 10mm bolt good luck
The "sound test" will normally determine if the fuel pump is working . The fuel pump relies on the pressure switch to turn off ... if no pressure then it will run for as long as 5-10 seconds. I don't know how the OBD got a code if the engine isn't running unless it was a "stored" code

tom ther is no such thing as pressure switch . the car we are tring to help with 01 focus this system will run pump a few seconds to prime the rail and shut down if not started. once car starts and runs the pump runs constent and returns exess fuel through a return line . the presure is controled by either a vacuum or elec fuel presure regulator .the amount of fuel need is controlled by speeding up or slowing the injector pulse width.

Thanks for the replies. I was wondering if the way that the gas basically stopped circulating so I could go. When I originally stopped I mean if it could the fuel pump died.. I had the emissions done a few days before this happened that is how it was abl2to read bc at that point if was running. I was able to get a fuel pump very cheap my friend works at a great place. Low. So I'm praying it is the answer. I'm a girl trying to learn still though so I can avoid issues later and know the warning signs. Thanks to everyone helping me!# I appreciate it..
True redneck ... although some High performance imports have the oil pressure sw used in conjunction with a "Safety cutoff" ( I did say Fuel and not oil) this car relies on the engine running after the initial prime .. Thank you ... I stand corrected

Ok. So my dad had it towed to a shop where the guy says it is the timing belt. My problem is he's trying to get us to replace the whole engine bc he said its a better thing to do. Also something about it not the water pump etc would need replacing. What the he'll is he talking about???
So let me get this straight ... This guy is going to take a new timing belt form the box ... hold it about 40" from the ground ,, then slide a new engine onto it. I don't think so .. but just in case the engine is shot you want to have exactly why the engine needs to be replaced. What's the compression, oil consumption etc. GET IT IN WRITING
Krystalg85 answered 9 years ago
He said it needs a timing belt. That it is off. But he is telling us that it is better to just replace the engine. So that the water pump timing belt etc are new. That is his reasoning for the new engine. I just don't think that is the better option.
Using His reasoning regarding a new water pump and other new parts then ,, If you buy a new car than a new engine comes with it. A new engine for your car will cost almost what the car is worth and don't forget that the engine does not come with a transmission. I assume the trans is as old as the engine so there's no guarantee it won't fail as soon as you put a new motor on it . Bottom line .... if the car needs a new engine and the rest of the car is in excellent condition then consider it but if the car has lots of wear and tear Unload it,

All that's wrong is the timin6belt. Thats why I didn't understand the engine option. I just think he is trying to make a quick buck. The rest of the car is good.
That could very well be the case ,, but this mechanic is counting on you having him repair it because it's unable to run and ...to get it to another repair facility is going to be a real hassle. You definitely need a second opinion and what is probably .going to happen is the minute you tell him that he is going to charge you storage, plus charge you for his time. Get everything in writing because if you get the car repaired and it turns out to be something minor .. you can take him to small claims court (costs about $20 to file) and recover your money. If you have towing on your insurance they may tow it to another repair place but the sooner you get it to another place the better off you will be BTW ,,, why did your Dad have it towed to this garage?
Krystalg85 answered 9 years ago
Ok. I will get it in writing. This garage is one beside his house ybat5he has used for years and he apparently trusts him. But I'm just weary. I know he wants to get me my car asap but I don't want him to get ripped off in the mean time. If it needs a timing belt I don't understand why replacing the engine would even be an option. Besides the fact that he would get a helluva lot more money out of him. Btw thanks for all your help. I really appreciate it. I have noticed when it comes to some mechanics I feel like I'm being conned and they give me a line of b's bc I'm a woman and clueless about most car problems.
We have to rely on what seems to be the original problem and that's the alarm code plus the belt, They agree with each other in that if the belt breaks you should get that alarm. So concentrate on that problem then go from there ... Good Luck

look he Is the truth, if your car is a single over head cam then its free wheeling witch means put a timing belt on it should be around 500.00 , if its dual over head cam its a interference motor witch means it HAS bent valves the cost to repair this old of a motor does not make good financial sense ,and a motor makes for a much better repair. as for your code IT SET BECAUSE THE CRANK AND CAM WERE OUT OF SYNC. AND WOULD MAKE PERFICT SENSE SETTING THE DTC THAT WAS SET. I DONT UNDERSTAND HOW ANY ONE CAN GIVE YOU GOOD ADVICE WITH OUT KNOWING WITCH MOTOR IS IN YOUR CAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!
