How can I get it back?

Asked by Kerri May 10, 2020 at 12:38 PM about the 1969 Chevrolet Camaro Coupe

Question type: Shopping & Pricing

This is a long story, but I'll do my best to keep it short. In 1986, my mom
bought my brother a 1969 Camaro 327 Sport Coupe in pretty rough shape.
He drove it for 2 years, then "gave" it to me. I drove it, then started restoring
it. Between my parents and me, we sunk over 10K into it. When I went to
college/got married/relocated, it was stored in my grandmother's garage. But
I came home and took it for a drive as often as I could except for snowy
weather. Mom died in 2010, and since the title was in her name with my
brother as co-owner, he took it back. It now sits in a barn covered with a
blanket. We don't speak, but I heard he and his wife split and he will be
putting his acreage up for sale. Before he sells it to someone else, I want to
try to buy it back. Not knowing what kind of shape it's in (I DON'T CARE!),
what do you think is a reasonable price?

Is it running and driving or just sitting in the barn for year rotting? Offer him $10K to $15K so he can't say No.

Contact your Brother. Ask him politely if he will sell the car to you and if so, how much does he want for it and may you see it? After seeing the car - if he will show it to you - assess the condition. If you still want it after seeing it, Grade it 1 - 5 via going to Hagerty Online. They explain 1 - 5 and will give an approximation of its' Value. Then You can make YOUR decision. The saddest thing is you have lost a Brother. And YOU have to decide which is more important - The Car, the Principle of his "Reclaiming the Car", or Forgiving and Forgetting. I'm estranged from my 2 sisters over a "Principle". We're in our 70's - Early to Late. Doubt We'll ever recover before 1, 2 or all 3 leave this World. I guess I Love them - but the Older one I never Liked. The Younger one was only OK. Hope You have better luck - and are a Better Man than Me!
