93 gmc suburban k1500 5.7 not cranking over

Asked by GMRGuldagerSr Feb 20, 2017 at 08:30 PM about the 1993 GMC Suburban K1500 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I replaced my engine thought maybe I have a
bad ground or wire not creating contact...
New starter new battery new batt. Wires. I
know the engine is free and the starter will
jump off the posts and slap the flywheel
with a screwdriver... When I turn the key all
my gauges 180 and the a/c display dims out
to black, along with the relay clicking in the
dash. I get nothing under the hood. Turned
the key with brights on,flashers, and
anything else I could turn on to pull from
batt and nothing dimmed except for the a/c
and my guages 180d

Could that have happened during the removal and install of new 5.7 engine I installed? Only reason I ask is I had a main go out so I pulled the old and in with the new, but it was running and driving and started up first time everytime before I parked it where it is and started the swap... Only moved the tranny back 2 maybe 3 inches to clear the assembly but I did notice my shifter seems almost loose in the drive slots. It goes into gear just seems off like someone tried to yank it out of park with the car off.

I can hear the relay clicking in the dash behind the glovebox its not the starter clicking... I went through the harness several times and I don't see any wires off , corroded, missing the block and frame contact points are clean... Losing my mind here

On the ground wires, do you have a good ground to the engine to the frame, engine to the body? Very important.
