I have 2000 miles before my oil change is due but the car is telling me it’s time now, why?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Just passed 40,000 mikes, could that be
the reason?

Full synthetic? How many miles on current oil? It has nothing to do with 40K. If it has an oil condition sensor then I would change it. If it is going on miles then report back about type of oil and how many miles on current oil.

I would change it just to be sure. Do you have to reset the oil light or does it come up on your information center about the oil? Asking because if it was not reset after the last change it might think it has been in there longer? This is if it goes on miles.

I have a maintenance light in my car that blinks at 4,500 and stays lit at 5,000 miles. I use full synthetic also and keep it in for 7K. I ignore the maintenance light at that interval and start buying my oil and filter.

Sounds like that switch wasn't reset after the oil change. And also depends on what kind of car it is, the make and the model also.
