I have a 2016 convertible Mustang GT and looking to increase HP
Asked by Mnj1bxm Aug 02, 2017 at 11:38 PM about the 2016 Ford Mustang GT Premium Convertible RWD
Question type: Car Customization
The GT has three upgrade options. The first ($599) features a high-flow air
filter, which Ford says delivers peak gains of 13 hp and 16 lb-ft over the stock,
435-hp/400-lb-ft V8 for a total of 448 hp and 416 lb-ft. The second package
($949) comes with a full cold-air intake, 87-millimeter throttle body and intake
adapter from the Shelby GT350. Those parts are good for gains of 21 hp and
24 lb-ft, according to Ford.
I wanted to know if option # 2 - cold air intake is a good buy or will a new
exhaust system give me more HP? And is so what brand is recommended?

I'd keep it stock as it already has 435 HP. No need for more. If you really need more power trade it for a Shelby.
Bob, I wish I could upgrade to a Shelby but out of my range. With the options I mentioned what do you feel is the best choice
Look at it this way option #1 is $46.07 per gained horse power and option #2 is $45.19 per gained horsepower provided that the numbers provided by Ford are accurate. If it were me given only those 2 choices and money is not the issue I would go with #2. I would be real curious what a tune and long tube headers would do for that car? http://www.mustangandfords.com/how- to/engine/1604-gain-40-coyote-horsepower-and-22-lb-ft-of-torque- with-these-easy-bolt-on-bbk-performance-mods/

The cold air intake and throttle body makes decent hp and torque. Those numbers are a bit high but not bad. But without a good exhaust system it will be a waste and you wont really see anything close to those numbers. Think of your engine like a funnel. the exhaust is the outlet or little end of the funnel. This stays the same size. and the stock exhaust is fairly restrictive to keep noise levels down to federally regulated standards. the Intake is the inlet or big end of the funnel. you can increase its capacity but it will only exit the funnel as fast as the outlet will let it. always open the exhaust side first. then let it breathe.
Makes a lot sense - I was actually thinking about the Corsa sport exhaust but was wondering if that would void my warranty

As long as the exhaust system you purchase is 50 states legal and has a CARB compliance certificate.(California air research board) your warranty will be ok. That said your exhaust system will be aftermarket and no longer covered under warranty.
I just completed the power pack 2 option with Roush's axle back exhaust and cold air intake and it sounds and runs great. What is the next modification I can do to increase HP ?
Get a custom tune and a tuner to install it. https://www.googleadservices.com/pagead/aclk? sa=L&ai=DChcSEwjA4_zvqNXXAhWBiX4KHbAlBJ0YABAUGgJwYw&ohost=www.google.co m&cid=CAESEOD2GS3mOdEWQ- 0AiHYayZg&sig=AOD64_3_ar9yx6H8vtk5wpLBuKJGeqHCOQ&ctype=5&q=&ved=0ahUKEwj zqfXvqNXXAhVQ1WMKHXsLBhgQ9aACCD0&adurl=
If the rather long link does not work when you copy and paste, remove any "spaces" that may be in it or do a "google" search for 2016 Mustang GT tuner. Might be good for about 30 HP.
Bob, What are your thoughts on the Voodoo intake manifold as well ? Bill
I have no information on the VooDoo intake. Certainly you would not want to use a different intake without a tune. And most likely a custom tune performed on a vehicle dyno would be the way to go, but that is somewhat pricey. Sometimes much of what you intend to do will depend on your budget.
A good read on various FOMOCO intakes at the like, but no info on the VooDoo. http://www.fordmuscle.com/tech-stories/engine/coyote-intake- manifold-shootout-gt-gt350-boss-302-and-cobra-jet/
That should have been "at the link" and not "at the like". Stupid spell checker has trouble reading my mind.
Correction, I guess the GT-350 intake IS the VooDoo intake.
You got a Bingo ! That’s the one - on American Muscle
