How do I change battery in 2016 key fob?

Asked by Bamamama65 Feb 05, 2017 at 01:36 PM about the 2016 Chrysler Town & Country Touring FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

T&C only has 15,300 miles and FOB already not working.  No back panel like
on older models to open and replace battery (not even sure if that's the
problem).  Anyone know how to replace battery on this year's model?
Thanks!

These most all have internal replaceable batteries. Easiest option is to bring by your local Auto parts store and they will be able open and replace in store.

what if someone needs it now? Mine says it's a 2015 but the on-line info doesn't match for key replacement Alarm goes off. Need to shut that down

Bring it in to a dealer for a battery? How stupid of a design is that. Just make it easy to replace a battery and show us how. Car dealers have been allowed to get away with too much crap in the name of the almighty dollar.

My response could be way to late for the question. However, this could be helpful in the future. I too own a 2015 Chrysler Town & Country Van. It is true that the new key fobs has no button that you can press to open. Not convenient at all. What I did is remove the actual key by sliding that teeny tiny vertical slider. So now you have a little hole to insert flat head screw driver. Patiently and slowly wiggle the screw driver until the key fob opens. You will see the coin lithium battery #2032, replace with the blank side facing up and you're good to go! Hope this helps.

Another option for an apparent dead Fob battery that tests good is to clean the contacts inside the Fob. A pencil eraser can be used for this. Sometimes even just a slight oxidation can cause a reading of weak battery/replace battery when in fact it is a new or nearly new battery.
