Since it's still under the factory bumper to bumper warranty, and it's nothing you're obviously leaving energized when the car is off, why not take it to your nearest Subaru dealer?

If you screw around with it you may have your warranty canceled

I bought a 2017 outback on Feb 13, 2017. The day before Christmas at 11:30 am, after driving the car for a while, I parked at Bed Bath Beyond parking lot went inside for less than half an hour and came out and the car would not start. After about 4 turns, it started. This happened again in February 2018. This time, after 10 turns and when it would not start, I thought I would have to tow the car. I stopped and sat for a few minutes and tried again and it starred. Aldo, at unrelated times, I had noticed hearhng the ekectrical sound of electrocution several time but so far these were not on highway.

I have a 2018 Legacy 3.6R with eyesight. in the last 6 weeks with 9000 miles on my car the radio and navigation died 2 times and the car died on the highway 3 times in 2 weeks. The dealership I use said they had to do an update on the computer 3 weeks ago. Since the update the car keeps die ing and is now is the shop for the 6th time in 6 weeks.

Complain to Subaru of America. You may want to make noises about a Lemon car claim.

Our 2015 Subaru has had nothing but problems, especially electrical. We are in Denver. We just had a $1000 bill to replace alternator and 2 other problems. We are in the shop a lot and I cannot recommend Subarus to anyone. Our 2005 Honda with 180k goes on and on with minimal repairs needed. Now THAT I would recommend.

Having the same problem. Five times we’ve had to jump start it (got it new 10 months ago). Was just at the dealer and the service tech said it had to be run every 3 days or so, or it would go dead.

I’m having same problem with 2017 Subaru Outback 3.6i, only 10k miles. Car went completely dead. Had AAA test and jump start. Provided test results that I I needed new battery. Took to dealer today for routine oil change and specifically check battery. Said battery fine. Can’t do anything. Said good luck and if happens again, tow to them. Called up Subaru HA and basically said same thing. Feeling frustrated.

This is the owner of outback 2017 bought on on Feb 13, 2017. Right after I posted 4 months ago, I called the dealer and told the person I took my car for routine oil change about all these electrical problem I read about here and that I posted mine as well. I asked him again, for the nth time, to do pertinent diagnostic test based on my experience. Also, I figured there's got to be a way to find the sound of electrocution I had heard. And I did ...on YouTube. So, I let him listen to it. at the appoibtment. A diagnostic test, based on what I described, was done. Of course nothing was found though I was told that the battery was found to be leaking. Who knows how this OEM battery had been leaking. I bet these guys know more than what they are revealing. The battery repkaced was not OEM but with 7 years warranty, saying that it is a better one, when I asked why the OEM was not used. I asked for the paperwork for the warranty. Since then I did not hear that electrocution sound until about less than a month ago WHEN I heard for a very svery short period. I think something is beginning to trigger that battery leak again. If I hear it again, I will ask to check the battery. I don't think I will be buying Subie again. Quite disgusted with my experience.

2016 Outback has had electrical issues from day 1! Tested it for camping by Making Certain all lights and doors were closed while leaving the hatch open for about 15 Min. Noticed the outside mirrors each have a light that stays on with the hatch open, cannot shut them off. Anyway, I had to cut short my testing and take the car on a errand. It would not start, had to jump the car to get it started. Eventually Ive noticed if I leave a key in the ignition, or leave any door ajar, or the rear hatch open for even 5 Min the car may not start or, if it does, the battery sounds dead. Have taken the car to Interstate Batt store near home and in Idaho and both places use load testers and checked each cell in the Batt for specific gravity and NO PROBLEM! Yet, the dealer wants me to purchase a new Batt. They have had the car several times for this issue and I think I am beginning to understand that the problem is computer (Say BIG dollars) and they are not going to fix it on their dime. This outback is going to be sold - soon. Just replaced the rear wheel bearings so that was another run around I had to fight. Hello - Ford, GM, Honda, Toyota; good bye Subi!

Same prob with mine. At 6000 miles car would not start without being jumped. Service dept said battery was fine but they replaced it in “in good faith”. At 7000 miles began having same problem. Was told by Subaru dealership I was keeping my keys to close to my car overnight and it was draining my battery. They said keys need to be more than 30 ft away from car. Sounds like a defect to me, but my car has been starting the last month since I moved my keys..

2018 Subaru Outback battery completely dead 3x in 1 week (May 2019). Took to dealership for fix. Brought home after supposed fix, but car completely dead the next day. Late for work and returned it to dealership today. Hoping it will be fixed and not a lemon. I had a 1997 Honda Accord that never left me stranded. Unfortunately, this car lost its life in the Tubbs Fire in Santa Rosa prompting the need for a new car.

I have the same issue on three different occasions while under warranty. They finally replaced the battery. However now that I’m at 38,000 miles, 2000 miles outside of my warrantee, I am having the same issue and it would not jumpstart or charge overnight. I tested the battery and it has 96% life still left. I had A friend look at the car who says there is definitely an electrical issue/short somewhere due to the fact he is getting both positive and negative charges in the ignition switch. The car has sat for six months because I can’t afford for the dealership to charge me thousands of dollars for a fix.

So my car is still at the dealership. They say I have a parasitic draw on my battery that is intermittent. They are looking at each fuse and testing. After 3 full days at the dealership this week, still not answer. My biggest worry, is that I only have about 1 more year on my electrical warranty. Cannot imagine 12 days with rental car and probably 30+ hours of labor in cost. Missing my old Honda.

I have owned my 2015 Subaru outback for 2 years and no problems. Then in the last 2 weeks my battery has been dead the next morning a couple of times. Charged the battery and all was good for a few days. Happened again. So i called Subaru and they said check the rear cargo light, common problem he said. Sure enough must have hit it when i was taking stuff out of the back, it was on. Good thing to keep a eye on. I hope this helps.

Class action lawsuit. Anyone interested in starting a Class action lawsuit? 2017 outback limited. Same issues as in here. Even after a new battery, 2 months later needed a jump. Embarrassing to have a car not 3 years old not start. Reply if interested, I’m happy to get a class action started. This is not ok.

I have a 2015 Outback. I have owned it for 16 months and had to replace battery twice. Just took it to the dealership and they said the ECU needed to be updated. Guy said that all the 2017’s had to be fixed and some earlier models need it if having symptoms with battery. So to everyone having battery issues, you may want to have this checked out.

My in-laws' 2016 Outback with 50k just recently started having this problem. They went through three batteries before the dealer noticed that the cargo light was on. Apparently it's so recessed and dim that even at night they didn't know it was on.

I have 2017 Subaru Outback with 12,000 miles on it. From day one have had issues with it not starting and hatch back not opening, radio won't turn on, etc. Have been given so many of the same answers as listed here. It has been in the dealership for five days now. I received a call this morning that they found the problem. Am told it is the mast air flow sensor. They are ordering part and replacing and I can pick up the car tomorrow. I pray this is the problem. There have been too many times my car would not start. And this car was purchased new with a price tag of $36,000.00. I had a Toyota Camry that I never had issues with. Maybe time to give them my business again.

I love my 2019 Subaru except that it too has battery problems. It's great for a month and then the car dies in the garage and I have to call Roadside Assistance. I've had this problem 5 times in 6 months, so I have to get rid of my Subaru. I only have one car and I need it to be reliable. I'm sad because my Subaru is just the right size and has all the features I want. There's several class action lawsuits against the company for this battery depletion problem. It seems that the battery is too small for all the electronics in it, and the electrical system can't be fixed.

Here is the link to the lawsuit. This is really unfortunate news. We just bought a 2017 and we’re happy to have a Subaru until it started dying on us. https://chimicles.com/subaru-outback- and-ascent-dead-battery-class-action- investigation/

2017 outback 3.6... 5 times now since new I've been towed in for failure to start. Now on 3rd battery, disrupted a very expensive vacation. Dealer doesn’t disclose there are common problems and tries to make vague excuses. I have a 2009 lexus gx470 thats NEVER been to a shop for repairs. Done with Subaru.

had this issue - several times wouldn't start after leaving it for a few hours. It is an issue with the back hatch, a sensor that tells the car it isn't closed, so it keeps trying to close it, draws more energy than leaving a light on. After several trips to our local dealership and some jack ass telling me that "new cars drain batteries faster than old cars" (moron) I made them find the issue. Haven't had a problem since.
